”In 2024, we were honoured to have had our work recognized by David Thompson Country. We are so proud to share the love and passion for what we have created with all the Guests who pass through Expanse, and will always be grateful to call this wonderful community of Nordegg, HOME!”

…A Family Affair

It all started in 2016 with Kamloops siblings, Jason & Jodi, 4 cabins, a dream and a property in need of some love.

With Jason’s passion for the mountains, he relocated to Nordegg to operate the camp, taking care of all the landscaping, maintenance and cleaning. When not pursuing obscure routes throughout the Bighorn, His free time usually finds him building many of the trails that have become local favourites.

Jodi manages head office out of Rocky Mountain House, running the books, reservations and advertising. in 2021, she and the family moved from Red Deer to Rocky to be closer to the business.

In 2019, Jason met a lovely artist named Jennifer, who herself had recently moved to Nordegg to manage the Hostel across the Meadow. They didn’t waste any time, for within two months they had purchased the iconic log “Beer Cabin” together (which started its life 50 years earlier as Nordegg’s Sheriffs office & holding cells). The next Summer, as a testament to our local Spirit, the folks of Nordegg banded together and moved the cabin 3kms to the Expanse Property, in what can only be described as a feat of true country grit! Successfully keeping a part of Nordegg’s history alive & well.

In 2021, Jason & Jennifer married at a secret backcountry camp and now proudly call the Old Log Cabin, HOME.

jodi & Rick, an “East meets West” love story, began in 2009. Jodi, from BC, and Rick, from Newfoundland, found themselves living and working in Alberta at the same time. They met and soon put down roots of their own, starting a family in Red Deer.

Their two daughters, Haylee & Kenzie, have spent many days out at Expanse, learning the ropes of the business. You may spot the girls around the property doing odd jobs like making beds, hauling wood, gardening, and other helpful chores!

Greg & Kim, our parents, continue to play an integral role in the development of both the business and the property. They spend much of their “retired” life visiting from BC to help out in any way they can, whether it be cleaning cabins, general upkeep or splitting all that crackling Pine for the Firesides’
Wood Stoves & Firepits!

It is Kim’s attention to detail, her small touches, like the hand crafted curtains &

our guests a cozy & memorable stay…

The Pack…

Even though the cabins are not pet-friendly ~ we do love us some fury beings!

Although we prefer they not visit the cabins, this has proven quite challenging to teach them. They all love the attention they get from new friends! If they do visit during your stay, please do not feed them and most importantly, do not invite them inside your cabin! These policies allow us to maintain the integrity & high standard of cleanliness that our guests have come to expect.

The Build…

As 2021 rolled in, Nordegg’s tourism economy was rocking. We decided it was time to get our hands dirty. Rick and Jen came on board full-time and the four of us got down to work. We designed and built two additional Handcrafted Cabins, with much of the lumber sourced from the property and milled on-site. Every board, every rock, every line laid by us!

After 2 solid years of building, and a ton of help from friends and family, we now offer 6 wickedly welcoming Cabins right in the heart of Nordegg. It’s a place for visitors near and far to come and experience a true Canadian Mountain Holiday!

Special thanks to Jen’s family; Bill & Cheryl for their skillful hands-on advice, and Catherine for her help during the build.
